DR. KYLE BONESTEEL, PH.D.
Director, Clinical Neuropsychology

Dr. Bonesteel is a clinical neuropsychologist with expertise in neuropsychological evaluation, neurofeedback, brain mapping, and non-invasive brain/pain technologies for treating patients with neurocognitive and chronic pain conditions.

Dr. Bonesteel is trained in clinical neuropsychology and behavioral neuroscience, having receiving his PHD from Ohio University. He completed his internship/residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center/Ann Arbor VA Medical Center and then completed a specialized fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology (in the departments of clinical neurology and psychiatry) at Northwestern University Medical School.

He is a staff neuropsychologist at Northwest Community Hospital and is Assistant Professor of Neurology at Loyola University Medical Center. Dr. Bonesteel has clinical research experience and teaches in the neurology residency program at Loyola Medical School. He has published journal articles, abstracts and presented at national conferences regarding topics in neuropsychology.

He is a current member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, the International EEG and Clinical Neuroscience Society, the International Neuropsychological Society, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and the American Academy of Neurology.


   

DR. ESTHER KAPLAN, PH.D.

Areas of Interest:

Dr. Kaplan is a licensed Clinical Pain Psychologist with expertise in the evaluation and non- pharmacological treatment of a variety of neurocognitive, psychological, and pain-related conditions. In addition, she is trained in various forms of biofeedback, performance enhancement, relaxation therapy, psychotherapy and counseling. These approaches are geared toward improving individuals' ability to cope with pain and stress, improving mood and thinking habits, modifying the body's physical response to stress and maximizing interpersonal effectiveness within the family and/or the workplace.

Education/Training:

Dr. Kaplan received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Chicago specializing in Clinical Psychology. She completed her Internship/Residency training and her Fellowship training in clinical Psychology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She has also received specialized certification training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction/Relaxation, Guided Imagery and surface EMG biofeedback. Dr. Kaplan has been featured on the radio, has lectured and published in the area of health psychology and treatment outcome improvement and has been an affiliate staff member of the Northwestern University Medical School.

REID SCHWARTZ, PH.D.
Director, Applied Psychophysiology, Lombard Division

Dr. Schwartz is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who holds BA, MA, and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago. He specializes in the neuropsychological evaluation and treatment of children and adults with neurocognitive disorders. Dr. Schwartz provides the following services:

  • Counseling, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and neurofeedback for children, adolescents and adults as well as family counseling and marital therapy
  • Neuropsychological Testing/Differential Diagnosis – Comprehensive evaluations for individuals of all ages. Proper diagnosis is critical in making effective individual treatment plans. Dr. Schwartz begins this diagnostic process by focusing on the client’s specific problems, determining a differential diagnosis, making individualized recommendations and working with the client to implement these recommendations. Dr. Schwartz is on the Illinois State Board of Education’s “Illinois Independent Evaluator Registry.”
  • Attention Deficit Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Autism, Aspergers, Traumatic Brain Injury, Memory Disorders, and other neurologically based disorders – Dr. Schwartz has extensive experience working individuals with these disorders. His experience includes: testing and diagnosis; counseling for the person and family; consultation parents with school districts regarding IEPs and 504 Plans; and the development of therapeutic milieus. He has seved on the Professional Advisory Board of the Illinois Association for Citizens with Learning Disabilities and has spoken at local, state and national conferences on the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and Specific Learning Disabilities.
  • Gifted Children – Many parents wonder if their child is gifted and whether the child should be placed in an advanced school program. Dr. Schwartz provides specialty testing and consultation to assist the student and parents decide what educational environment maximizes their potential.
  • Emotional and behavior disorders – Dr. Schwartz provides diagnostic, counseling, behavioral treatment and neurofeedback services for individuals of all ages with these problems. He works directly with schools to ensure that children and adolescents receive the required support and accommodations they need. When appropriate he will make school observations and assist in drawing up Behavior Management Plans. He also collaborates with leading psychiatrists and neurologists when the conditions warrant medication.
  • Expert Witness – Dr. Schwartz has served as an expert witness in administrative proceedings, juvenile court, and Federal court. He has years of experience testifying in special education proceedings, Social Security disability determinations, and personal injury matters.
  • Sports Psychology and Performance Enhancement – Dr. Schwartz is a world class masters track cyclist (2007 US National Champion and US and World Record holder in his age group for the Team Sprint). He has worked with numerous professional and talented amateur athletes and coaches from a wide range of sports to improve their performance. His focus is to help athletes resolve psychological conflicts that interfere with performance.
  • Professional affiliations – National Academy of Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, International Society for Neuronal Regulation, and the American Psychological Association.

DR. NEAL BOWEN, PSY.D.
Director, Applied Psychophysiology, Schaumburg Division

Dr. Bowen is a clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist with expertise in neuropsychological evaluation, differential diagnosis of pediatric neurodevelopmental conditions, neurofeedback, and non-invasive brain technologies for treating patients with neurocognitive and pain conditions. He is the Director of Applied Psychophysiology, Schaumburg Division.
